8.5/10 C/D RATING
- Highs Incredibly quick, eye-popping agility, surprising tow capacity.
- Lows Further proof that speed costs money, this hybrid is about performance, not fuel economy.
- Verdict With massive power, prodigious speed, posh accommodations, and a decent tow rating, the Cayenne Turbo can turn any SUV task into a grin-inducing thrill ride.
Overview
For some car enthusiasts, the idea of a hybrid Porsche still rankles, despite the fact that the company introduced the first Cayenne SUV hybrid back in 2010. Today, the 2025 Turbo E-Hybrid is the most powerful Cayenne—ever. And the name is no illusion, as this puppy packs a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 gas engine paired with an electric motor and all-wheel drive. Offered solely as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), the Turbo E-Hybrid delivers an estimated 35 miles of pure electric driving range. Yet the electric motor, when paired with its petrol-swilling stablemate, helps produce a simmering 729 combined horsepower, which should make the Turbo E-Hybrid among the fastest SUVs we’ve ever tested. According to Porsche, it will reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, although don’t be surprised if it’s actually quicker based on our testing of a less powerful, previous-generation model. The same driveline is also offered in the Cayenne Turbo Coupe GT, which we review separately. Nonetheless, you’ll find the Cayenne Turbo doesn’t surrender cargo space despite its hybrid driveline, all the while providing the ferocious performance you’d expect in an SUV that competes with such sporting stalwarts as the Audi RS Q8 and BMW X5 M.
Where This Vehicle Ranks
What's New for 2025?
While remaining mechanically unchanged for 2025, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, like all Cayenne models, receives additional standard equipment for the new model year. The upgrades include ambient interior lighting, a 360-degree camera system to help while parking, soft-close doors, and improved cabin air filtration. In addition, Porsche’s most powerful Cayenne features various exterior and interior trim pieces—including the 21- and 22-inch wheels—done up in Turbonite, a special gray color used on Porsche Turbo models. This year's standard equipment revisions represent no act of largesse on Porsche's part, as the starting price has risen by more than ten thousand dollars compared to last year's model. But if you’re a longtime Porsche aficionado, you’ve come to expect—if not exactly appreciate—high prices for the attractive extras.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2025 Porsche Cayenne Turbo starts at $158,995.
What price would you pay to have the fastest 2025 Porsche Cayenne in your 'hood? In this case, it’s $158,995. That nets you a plug-in hybrid capable of a 3.5-second 0-60 mph run on its way to a top speed of 183 mph, according to Porsche, when equipped with the Sport Chrono package and summer tires. With the discontinuation of the nonhybrid Cayenne Turbo, the E-Hybrid is the sole Cayenne Turbo model now on offer. Nevertheless, this 5,700-pound Porsche performs so well and accelerates with such blistering ferocity, it appears to defy the laws of physics. We think that the Turbo E-Hybrid will actually reach 60 mph closer to 3.0 seconds given that a previous generation Cayenne hybrid with 59 fewer ponies did the deed in 3.2 seconds in our testing.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Under the hood of the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 gas engine and an electric motor. Together, they generate 729 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard and top speed is claimed to be 183 mph. Certainly, the Cayenne Turbo’s acceleration feels boundless, as the eight-speed gearbox promptly changes gears, and the power pours forth. This newest Turbo’s electric motor makes 174 horsepower, a significant improvement over the 134 horsepower produced by the previous model. And its appreciably larger 20.6-kWh battery can now be recharged with the onboard 11-kW charger rather than the 3.6-kW or 7.2-kW units previously offered. Steering is light and direct, while the adaptive suspension and optional rear-axle steering with torque vectoring balances its athleticism with a remarkable amount of control, performing at a level you’d never expect from an SUV. The driveline is remarkably smooth, with a seamless transition between gas and electric power, as well as equally smooth braking.
0-60-MPH Times
While we've yet to test the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, Porsche claims that it can reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. When we track-tested the previous-generation Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, rated at 670 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque, we managed a 60 mph run of 3.2 seconds. So, don’t be surprised if the newest Turbo accomplishes the same feat in as little as 3.0 seconds. We'll update this story when we find out for ourselves.
Towing and Payload Capacity
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid can tow a maximum of 6,600 pounds, about as much as the majority of contemporary mid-size pickup trucks.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA has not rated the 2025 Porsche Cayenne Turbo’s fuel economy. We estimate it returns 18 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined, with an all-electric range of 35 miles. For more information about the Cayenne's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
There’s definitely a sense of déjà vu when you climb into the Cayenne Turbo’s cabin. With its sizable 12.7-inch instrument cluster and toggle-style gear selector, it feels similar to the all-electric Taycan sedan. Infotainment and navigation are found on the 12.3-inch center-mounted touchscreen, which thankfully includes a volume button. Not to be left out, front-seat passengers get their own 10.9-inch touchscreen with video streaming. All occupants will appreciate the standard leather-trimmed 18-way power-adjustable sport seats. Less aggressive 14-way power-adjustable comfort seats are optional. Cargo space measures a reasonable 15.8 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 55 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Cayenne Turbo's driver and front passenger face a wall of digital displays that stretch the entire width of the dashboard. In the center is a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. To the right is a secondary (and optional) 10.9-inch display for the front passenger, which Porsche says can be used to stream video content because it features a safety mechanism that makes it invisible from the driver's vantage point. There's a separate 12.6-inch screen meant just for the driver, nestled behind the steering wheel and projecting vehicle speed, the tachometer, a trip computer, and other functions. If you've ever noticed your smartphone convert itself into an aluminum Hot Pocket while charging, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid's wireless smartphone charger uses a tiny air-conditioner to keep devices cool while they're juicing up. A set of upgraded audio systems includes a 14-speaker Bose unit or a much pricier Burmester setup that pumps 1455 watts through 21 speakers.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
A long list of driver-assistance technologies is standard on the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, including forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and front and rear parking sensors. A handful of other active driver aids are optional, including a night-vision system, adaptive cruise control, and surround view. For more information about the Cayenne’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Standard lane-keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
At four years or 50,000 miles, the limited warranty and powertrain coverage are competitive in this class, and the 24-hour roadside assistance program spans the same amount of time. Porsche also includes the first scheduled maintenance visit; BMW's complimentary scheduled maintenance program is considerably longer.
- Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Hybrid electrical components/battery warranty covers 8 years or 100,000 miles
- Complimentary maintenance is covered for 1 year or 10,000 miles
